HADLEY, N.Y., Aug. 25 (UPI) -- A 2.7-magnitude earthquake hit in the Adirondack region near Hadley, N.Y., Sunday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The epicenter was three miles northeast of Hadley, eight miles away from Glens Falls and 18 miles away from Saratoga Springs.
The depth of the earthquake was 6.3 miles, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The Adirondack region is one of the more seismically active parts of northeastern U.S, the Survey said.
The three largest known earthquakes in the region have caused about $20 million of damage, and moderately damaging earthquakes strike somewhere in the region every few decades, the Survey said.
Smaller earthquakes are felt about once every three or four years.
Earthquakes in the center and Eastern United States are less frequent than in the West, but are typically felt across a broader region.
