HOUSTON, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- A Houston woman said she's suing a pharmacy for $1 million after her 6-year-old daughter died from a dose of morphine the pharmacy allegedly incorrectly filled.
Simone Allen said her daughter, Jadalyn Williams, had been taking morphine on and off since she was 1-year-old to treat pain associated with sickle cell anemia.
Allen said she had visited Cullen Care Pharmacy countless times to fill the prescription.
"I know them by first-name basis," she said.
In her lawsuit, Allen alleges the pharmacy filled her daughter's 15-milligram morphine prescription at ten times that amount in March, KTRK-TV, Houston, reported.
Six days later, Jadalyn was dead.
"It's clear she was overdosed," Allen attorney Muhammad Aziz said.
The Harris County coroner confirmed Jadalyn died from an accidental morphine overdose, KTRK said.
More than the money, Allen said she wants an apology for her daughter's death.
"I do want an apology. I lost my child," said Allen. "Why wouldn't you call me?"
She said she hopes the lawsuit will prevent this mistake from happening again.
"I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I don't want anyone to ever have to go through what I've been through," Allen said.
