Former Patriots star Aaron Hernandez indicted on murder charge

TAUNTON, Mass., Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was indicted Thursday, charged with the murder of Odin Lloyd, whose body was found near Hernandez's home.

The indictment named Ernest Wallace, a Hernandez friend who allegedly helped him dispose of Lloyd's body at an industrial park, The Boston Globe reported. Hernandez faces a possible life sentence with no parole, while Wallace could get seven years if he is convicted of being an accessory after the fact.

Prosecutors in Bristol County say Lloyd, 27, a semi-pro football player who lived in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood, had angered Hernandez with comments he had made in a nightclub. Lloyd was allegedly driven from Boston to North Attleboro, where Hernandez lives, and shot in the industrial park, his body left at the side of a road.

Police have been unable to find a weapon. Investigators say surveillance video from the industrial park and from Hernandez's own home system link him to the killing.

The Globe, citing sources it did not identify, said police are investigating whether Hernandez was involved in the shooting of two men from Cape Verde. They were killed in a drive-by shooting in Boston last year.

Hernandez, 23, joined the Patriots in 2010. In August 2012 he signed a five-year extension on his contract with a $12.5 million signing bonus. He was released by the team after his arrest.
