WASHINGTON, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- Almost all of the 19 U.S. embassies and consulates closed this week because of a potential terrorism threat will reopen Sunday, the State Department says.
Only the U.S. Embassy in Sanaa, Yemen, will remain closed, The Hill reported Friday.
Jen Psaki, a State Department spokeswoman, said that facility would remain closed "because of ongoing concerns about a threat stream indicating the potential for terrorist attacks emanating from al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula."
The U.S. consulate in Lahore, Pakistan, also will remain closed after shuttering its doors Thursday.
Decisions on when the diplomatic sites might reopen will be based on continuing evaluations of threat levels in those regions, Psaki said.
The closures were made over the past week after U.S. intelligence reportedly intercepted a message between top al-Qaida leaders.
Eight U.S. drone strikes in Yemen over the past two weeks have killed 34 suspected al-Qaida militants.
