WASHINGTON, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- U.S. President Obama Friday defended the Affordable Care Act, questioning why Republicans have made its repeal "the Holy Grail" of their party.

Obama said Republicans No. 1 priority appears to be "making sure 30 million [uninsured] people don't have healthcare."

The president said reported threats to shut down the government unless healthcare reform is repealed do not make sense.
