GAINESVILLE, Fla., Aug. 6 (UPI) -- Freshman Rep. Ted Yoho, R-Fla., told a Gainesville, Fla., town hall meeting he supports further investigation into the circumstances of President Obama's birth.
Yoho's ongoing interest in the president's birthplace despite confirmation by officials in Hawaii that he was born in Honolulu comes with hope of invalidating legislation produced during the Obama administration, the Washington newspaper The Hill reported Monday.
While Yoho admitted the right wing's lingering questions about Obama's birthplace and citizenship are a "distraction" and conceded "Is that really how we should be spending our time?" he told the audience Saturday "if it is true" the president was born elsewhere than Hawaii, "it's illegal, he shouldn't be here and we can get rid of everything he's done."
The White House and officials in Hawaii have produced copies of Obama's birth certificate confirming he was born in Honolulu, The Hill noted.
