CORNEILIA, Ga., July 24 (UPI) -- Prosecutors in Georgia said a woman who pleaded guilty to making and detonating pipe bombs told investigators the practice was a "hobby."
U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates said Celia Alchemy Savage, 24, of Cornelia, pleaded guilty in federal district court this week to making and possessing two pipe bombs discovered during a May 30, 2012, search of her home.
"This defendant said she made and detonated pipe bombs as a hobby," Yates said in an FBI release. "Making bombs out of heavy metal pipe, explosive powder, and fuses is a serious crime, not a hobby, that carries significant penalties."
The FBI said the search came after a tip from a concerned citizen who reported seeing explosives in Savage's home.
"The plea today is another reminder that ATF and our law enforcement partners will hold individuals accountable for any criminal behavior, especially that which threatens the safety of innocent civilians," said Special Agent in Charge Christopher Shaefer of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
Savage could receive a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and a fine of as much as $500,000, authorities said. She could also be subject to up to six years of supervised released following a prison term.
