NEW YORK, July 23 (UPI) -- Anthony Marshall, convicted of plundering the estate of his mother, Brooke Astor, is eligible for parole only weeks after entering prison, an official said.

Marshall, 89, suffers from Parkinson's disease and is seeking a medical parole, the New York Daily News reported Tuesday.

A parole board will consider his petition for release the week of Aug. 19, a spokesman for the Department of Corrections said.

Marshall was convicted in 2009 of looting his mother's $185 million fortune and sentenced to one to three years in prison. He began serving his sentence at Fishkill Correctional Facility in June.

Kenneth Warner, Marshall's attorney, said he hoped to gain his client's release "as soon as possible."
