BRIELLE, N.J., June 18 (UPI) -- A gunman suspected of critically wounding a woman outside a Jersey Shore restaurant Tuesday was arrested after barricading himself in a home, authorities said.
Police said the shooting took place about 12:55 a.m in the parking lot of the Sand Bar Restaurant in Brielle and the suspect was taken into custody during the afternoon at his Point Pleasant home in the Bay Point Harbour Condominiums, the Asbury Park Press reported.
The 35-year-old victim, whose name had not been released, was in critical-but-stable condition at an area hospital, The (Newark) Star-Ledger reported.
Bud Mayo, a 15-year resident of the neighborhood where the suspect was arrested, said officials woke him up at 4 a.m. and told him to evacuate.
Mayo said the alleged shooter has lived there for as long as he could remember and was a "very quiet guy" who was not "part of the social set in Bay Point Harbour."
Dave D'amBrosa, who owns the building housing the Sand Bar Restaurant, said police had not given him any details.
The restaurant was closed at noon and yellow police tape blocked off an entrance, with two Brielle police cars stationed in the parking lot.
