WASHINGTON, June 18 (UPI) -- Natura Pet Products is voluntarily recalling some of its dry pet food because of potential salmonella contamination, U.S. health officials said Tuesday.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said in a statement on its website the risk of salmonella is to animals eating the products and to humans handling the pet food.
The FDA said Natura, a division of Procter & Gamble of Cincinnati, said the recall includes Natura's Innova, EVO, California Natural, Healthwise, Karma and Mother Nature brands. The agency said the products were packaged in a single production facility and a single lot tested positive for salmonella.
The FDA said there had been no reports of pet or people falling as a result of contact with the products in question. No canned wet food is included in the recall.
Natura is recalling all dry products with expiration dates prior to June 10, 2014. The affected products are sold in bags through veterinary clinics, select pet specialty retailers and online in the United States and Canada.
The recalled products include all lot and UPC codes and all package sizes of Innova dry dog and cat food, and biscuits/bars/treats; EVO dry dog, cat and ferret food and biscuits/bars/treats; California Natural dry dog and cat foods and biscuits/bars/treats; Healthwise dry dog and cat foods; Karma dry dog foods; and Mother Nature biscuits/bars/treats.
The FDA said consumers who have purchased the products on the list should discard them. People can call Natura toll-free at 800-224-6123 for more information.
