Mass. Gov. recalls Marathon manhunt, getting drunk when it ended

BOSTON, June 6 (UPI) -- Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick told an audience in Cambridge he got "quite drunk" following the manhunt for the Boston Marathon bombing suspects.

During a question-and-answer session with Brian Halligan, founder of the firm HubSpot, Patrick offered a behind-the-scenes look at how public officials dealt with the bombings -- which killed three people and injurd 270 -- and the death of bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev and the capture of his brother Dzhokhar, the Boston Herald reported Thursday.

Patrick called apprehending the Tsarnaev brothers a relief, saying it ended the "bitching and moaning" the accompanied his unprecedented "shelter in place" order, locking down Boston and surrounding cities for more than 16 hours.

He said he chose the FBI to head the manhunt, but it could just as well have been another agency.

"I said we need one agency in charge. I said, 'I don't care who it is, somebody's got to be in charge.'"

Patrick said he escaped the Boston area the weekend after the arrest of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev to relax, going to Massachusetts' Berkshire Mountains, where he visited a restaurant and "by the end of the meal, I was actually quite drunk, by myself."
