2 FBI agents killed in Virginia Beach training exercise

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., May 20 (UPI) -- Two FBI agents from an elite hostage rescue unit in Northern Virginia were killed Friday during a training exercise in Virginia Beach, the FBI said Sunday.

The agents, Christopher Lorek, 41, and Stephen Shaw, 40, were part of the Critical Incident Response Group based at Quantico, The Washington Post reported.

A source told WAVY-TV, Portsmouth, the accident may have involved a helicopter. An FBI spokeswoman in Norfolk said gunfire was not involved.

FBI Director Robert Mueller released a statement saying the agents accepted "the highest risk each and every day," calling them "two brave and courageous men."
