Boy left alone in school for four hours

ANDERSON, Ind., May 16 (UPI) -- An Indiana woman says her son was was left alone at his school for hours after most people had left and he had to call 911 for help.

Damarion Larry, a second grader at Valley Grove Elementary School in Anderson, was alone in a room in the dean's office for more than four hours on Tuesday, WRTV, Indianapolis, reported.

"He was in this room from 2:22 to almost 6:45, nothing to drink, nothing to eat, and it's really just troublesome that something like that could even happen," his mother, Joyce Larry, said.

School officials said Damarion, 8, had been sent to the dean's office for a timeout and was somehow forgotten about when administrators left at about 4 p.m.

Joyce Larry said she became worried that her son had gotten on the wrong bus so she went to the school to look for him. There, after-school program employees told her it was unlikely that Damarion was still there, but helped her look for him.

Eventually the principle was called in, but by that time, Damarion had called 911.

"I woke up and I was by myself in that room, and then I stayed in there for a while, and then I came out and I checked the door and nobody was there, so I called the police," Damarion said.

Anderson Community School Superintendent Dr. Felix Chow said the incident was unfortunate.

"No adult deliberately tried to ignore the child and leave the child in the room," Chow said. "Somehow, no adult observed the child's presence in any room."
