PHILADELPHIA, May 15 (UPI) -- A Philadelphia jury convicted a homeless woman of involuntary manslaughter for the starvation death of her infant son Quasir Alexander in December 2010.
The jury of eight women and four men deadlocked 11-1 on convicting Tanya Williams, 34, on a more serious charge of third-degree murder for Quasir's death, the Philadelphia Daily News reported Wednesday.
Williams was convicted of aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child for the near starvation of Quasir's twin brother, Quamir.
Assistant District Attorney Peter Lim said Williams faces a maximum of 22 to 44 years in prison at her sentencing scheduled for June 28.
Williams' attorney Gregory Pagano argued that Williams has a low IQ and did not intentionally hurt her infant sons.
He said the hospital released the twins too soon after their October 2010 births.
