Newborn dies after being found in bathroom

CALUMET CITY, Ill., April 5 (UPI) -- Police in Calumet City, Ill., say they're investigating the death of a newborn girl who was found in a restaurant bathroom.

The baby was found by workers in the women's restroom of a Popeye's restaurant at about 2:50 p.m. Thursday, the Chicago Tribune reported.

She was about 15 minutes old when she was found, the Lake County coroner's office said. She was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Calumet City Police Capt. Dan Zorzi said it appeared that the girl's mother gave birth to her in the restaurant bathroom. He said detectives were following "good leads" in the case.

Police had not made any arrests in the case as of Friday morning.
