Prison guard allegedly pregnant by inmate

NEW YORK, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- A federal prison guard in New York who allegedly was impregnated by a cop-killer inmate, has been charged with sexual abuse of a person in custody.

Police arrested Nancy Gonzalez, 29, at her home in Long Island Tuesday for allegedly hiding an affair she had with Ronell Wilson, 30, who was convicted of killing two undercover New York police detectives in 2003, The New York Times reported.

The Justice Department began the investigation into the affair -- which allegedly took place between March and August -- after inmates at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn reported seeing the two "hugging and kissing," court documents said.

Gonzalez allegeldy admitted to the relationship in recorded phone conversations with friends, the New York Post reported.

"I took a chance because I was so vulnerable and wanted to be loved," she allegedly said.

Wilson had been given the death penalty for killing the two detectives though that was overturned on procedural grounds in 2010. He is awaiting a special "penalty-phase" trial in which a jury will decide if he should executed or remain in prison for the rest of his life, the Post reported.

Wilson wrote a letter to another inmate expressing his concern at being executed without having any children, the Times reported.

"I just need a baby before thiz pigz try to take my life. I need to have something behinde," he wrote.

"Why not give him a child, as far as giving him some kind of hope?" Gonzalez, who is eight months pregnant, told an inmate, the court documents said.

If convicted, Gonzalez could face a possible 15 years in prison.
