Monica Conyers now in home confinement

DETROIT, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- Former Detroit City Councilwoman Monica Conyers will be finishing her federal sentence for bribery at her home, federal officials say.

Ed Ross, a spokesman for the U.S. Bureau of Prisons, said Conyers was released from a halfway house to home confinement Jan. 25, The Detroit News reported Tuesday. Under the terms of her release, she must be working or looking for work.

Conyers, 48, the wife of U.S. Rep. John Conyers, is also required to remain at home except for work, church and doctor's visits. Her 37-month sentence will be finished May 16.

After pleading guilty to bribery in 2009, Conyers resigned from the city council. She spent 27 months at the federal women's prison in Alderson, W. Va.
