"We took him to the hospital," a fire official said.

Bulger's condition was not immediately available.

The alleged mobster has been accused with participating in 19 murders, as well as money laundering, extortion and drug dealing. In the 1990s he fled Boston to California, where he lived as a recluse until he was arrested in 2011.

Authorities have said that Bulger, a fitness enthusiast, has had heart trouble for years and managed to get heart medicine, even while on the lam, with a fake ID.

Bulger is scheduled to stand trial in March, but his legal team is pushing for a delay until November of 2013.
