WASHINGTON, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- President Obama can hold off Mitt Romney in the final days of the presidential race if the campaign continues to execute its strategy, a senior adviser said.
David Plouffe said on NBC's "Meet the Press" Sunday the president was leading by a neck as the race came down to the wire and was just out of reach of the oncoming Romney.
"I think we are in a commanding position, but our big challenge now is to make sure we execute and make sure that we get our vote out," Plouffe said. "And that's what we're spending all of our time on."
Plouffe said the Obama camp saw itself with enough of a lead in the battleground states that Romney would have to "carry Election Day by a huge margin" if he hoped to catch up to and pass the president.

Plouffe said the current unemployment statistics were positive enough that voters would not buy either Romney's contention the Obama administration had failed to get the economy on track or his economic proposals. "I think we're going to win the case on the economy in this election, which is the primary reason we're going to win the election," Plouffe said.
Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Va., dismissed Obama's overall campaign as negative and glossing over the United States' continued economic struggles. He predicted voters would conclude that while Romney had a solid plan for economic growth, Obama had little to offer.
"He (Romney) has a demonstrated track record and has provided an actual plan, whereas all you're getting from the president in these closing days of his campaign is more negativity, more attacks," Cantor said.
