Shallow earthquake hits So. California

COSO JUNCTION, Calif., Oct. 5 (UPI) -- A shallow earthquake with a 3.5 magnitude was reported 17 miles from Coso Junction in southern California, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The quake, the second in the area with a magnitude of 3.0 or greater in the past 10 days, occurred at 6:17 p.m. Thursday, the USGS said.

The epicenter was 20 miles from the Searles Valley, Calif., 21 miles from Trona, 21 miles from Ridgecrest and about 130 miles from downtown Los Angeles, the USGS said.

There were no reports of injuries or damage.
