LOS ANGELES, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- The California wildfire that has consumed thousands of acres of the Angeles National Forest since Sunday has been largely contained, offiicals said.
The Williams fire, above Glendora in Southern California, was 69 percent contained, the U.S. Forest Service said Thursday evening, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Some 4,180 acres have been blackened.
Forest Service officials said firefighters had been aided by cooler temperatures and relative humidity as low as 39 percent.
Thousands of residents, recreational users and a mobile home park were forced to flee the fire. The entire San Gabriel Canyon, where the fire began in the east fork near State Route 39, was shut down on Labor Day weekend.
Four people, including two firefighters, were injured Monday, but no one required hospitalization.
