U. of Alabama rejected Holmes' application

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Accused Aurora, Colo., movie theater shooter James Holmes was rejected by the University of Alabama Birmingham's neuroscience program, school documents said.

Information released Thursday by the university said despite high marks for laboratory work and scores on graduate admissions tests, Holmes' personality troubled professors during interviews. He was declined admission to the school's neuroscience doctoral program, and was informed of the decision on March 31, 2011.

Holmes was rejected for positions at several other colleges and enrolled at the University of Colorado, where he performed poorly and withdrew after the spring 2012 semester, The Denver Post reported Thursday.

Holmes is charged with engaging in a shooting rampage at an Aurora theater July 20, killing 12 patrons and injuring 58, police said. He awaits trial on multiple counts of murder and attempted murder.
