DENVER, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- The man accused in the Colorado movie theater shootings met with at least three campus mental health professionals in the days before, university records show.
That revelation shows the University of Colorado was aware former student James Holmes had mental issues, CBS News reported.
A spokesperson for the university declined to comment on the information, citing a judge's gag order. However, the name of one of the people Holmes met with is known. Dr. Lynne Fenton received a package from Holmes three days after the shooting.
Holmes' attorneys say whatever is in the package is privileged information.
How long Holmes met with the mental health professionals at UC's student health center, or what he said, isn't known. Whatever he said brought him to the attention of the university's Behavior Evaluation and Threat Assessment team.
Campus police were asked to do a background check on Holmes, but what happened after the request was made isn't clear.
