Volcano fire at 400 acres, 1 home burned

MURRIETA, Calif., Aug. 1 (UPI) -- One home was burning Wednesday in the La Cresta area west of Murrieta, Calif., as the Volcano fire grew to 400 acres, fire officials said.

The fire, west of the Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Reserve, was 20 percent contained and at least 233 firefighters were trying to hold it south of Val Vista and west of Avenida La Cresta, Riverside County Fire Chief John Hawkins said, The (Riverside) Press-Enterprise reported.

Six air tankers, 35 fire trucks, four helicopters and three bulldozers were being used to battle the blaze, which was reported just before noon Wednesday and was spreading at a moderate rate, the newspaper said.

No mandatory evacuation orders had been issued.
