FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., June 30 (UPI) -- A Florida police captain has been charged with ordering a 15-year-old girl to take off her underwear so he could determine if she had had sex.
Juan De los Rios, an 18-year veteran of the Miramar Police Department, surrendered Friday, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported. He could be sentenced to as much as 15 years in prison if he is convicted of lewd and lascivious conduct involving a child.
The incident took place in January, an arrest affidavit said. De los Rios allegedly found the girl and a 19-year-old male in the back seat of a car parked in an industrial area.
When the girl told the officer they had not been having sex, he allegedly told her to remove her slacks and underpants and also to pull down her blouse.
The girl eventually told her parents, who reported the incident to police. A spokeswoman for the Miramar Police Department said De los Rios has been suspended without pay.
