Anchorage feels 4.6 earthquake

ANCHORAGE, Alaska, May 16 (UPI) -- Alaskans got off to a shaky start Wednesday when Anchorage was rattled by an earthquake that seismologists said measured a magnitude 4.6 on the Richter Scale.

The shaking was felt across the Alaskan city but the Anchorage Daily News said reports on various social media indicated damage was limited to items falling off shelves.

The U.S. Geological Survey said in a written statement the quake hit at 7:02 a.m. AKDT and was centered 8 miles southwest of Anchorage at a depth of 36.7 miles.
