Teacher allegedly helped hide affair

INDIANAPOLIS, May 10 (UPI) -- An Indianapolis teacher allegedly tried to protect a vice principal who had an affair with a student, police said.

Melissa L. Jones was charged last week with obstruction of justice, the Indianapolis Star reported. Corey Greenwood, who has been suspended from his job as vice principal and athletic coach at George Washington Community High School, faces charges of seduction of a child.

Investigators said that Jones went to the alleged victim and said that Greenwood had been wrong to have sex with her. But Jones, who described Greenwood as a close friend, said he might lose his job and custody of his son and allegedly asked the teenager to delete messages from him from her cellphone.

Greenwood allegedly had sex with the girl at the school and at his home, the Star said. Investigators said a classmate reported the affair to police, and the girl eventually admitted it.

Greenwood is free on bail but required to wear an electronic monitor.
