Pa. transportation workers win Powerball

PHILADELPHIA, April 26 (UPI) -- Forty-eight workers for the Southern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority will split a Powerball jackpot of $172.7 million, lottery officials said Thursday.

The workers, mostly from SEPTA's marketing department at the Market Street headquarters in Philadelphia, will each collect $3.6 million from Wednesday's win if they take annual payments over 30 years, or a $2.5 million lump-sum payout, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

SEPTA headquarters was abuzz Thursday about who the possible winners are. Sources told the Inquirer a custodian who chipped in regularly won, but a department manager who usually took part in the group lottery purchase didn't get in on it this time.
