Professor in trouble for porn documentary

BOONE, N.C., April 25 (UPI) -- A professor at Appalachian State University in North Carolina was suspended for classroom actions, including showing a movie about pornography.

Jammie Price, who has been teaching at ASU for eight years and has tenure, told the Watauga Democrat of Boone she believes she has been denied due process.

Administrators say in addition to showing the documentary "The Price of Pleasure" in her sociology class, she insulted student athletes and created a hostile environment in her class.

Officials say Price also made a black student uncomfortable by saying in class ASU is racist and black students are not welcome there.

Price was told when she was put on administrative leave she should not get in touch with any students. University officials say she has not been disciplined yet but is on leave while her classroom conduct is investigated.

Linda Foulsham, director of the university's Office of Diversity, Equality and Compliance, said the office conducts five to 10 investigations a year. When violations of university policy are found, penalties could range from reprimands to dismissal, she added.
