Half of Americans support passport loss for tax-owers

WASHINGTON, April 19 (UPI) -- Just over half of U.S. residents support a plan to bar those who owe $50,000 or more in taxes from possessing passports, a poll released Thursday indicated.

The IBOPE Inteligencia interactive poll found 53 percent of respondents approve of legislaton now before Congress, and 41 percent disapprove. Another 6 percent are not sure or have no opinion.

The bill has passed the U.S. Senate and is awaiting action in the House.

The polling company, formerly IBOPE Zogby, surveyed 1,978 people online April 6-9. The margin of error is 2.2 percentage points.
