5 charged with killing of two women

DETROIT, April 7 (UPI) -- Five men have been charged with killing two Detroit-area women because they cooperated with police, a prosecutor said Saturday.

At a news conference in Hamtramck, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said the charges include premeditated murder, felony murder, unlawful imprisonment and torture, The Detroit News reported. The defendants, all Detroit residents, face life in prison if they are convicted.

The bodies of Abreeya Brown, 18, and Ashley Conaway, 22, of Hamtramck were found March 25, almost a month after they disappeared. They had told police that Conaway's former boyfriend, Brandon Cain, 26, had fired at them Feb. 8 in a shooting that left Conaway with minor injuries.

Cain and Brian Lee, 25, are charged with the earlier shooting. A judge ordered them Thursday to stand trial in the case.

Miguel Rodriquez, 24, and two cousins, Reginald Brown, 24, and Jeremy Brown, 19, allegedly joined Cain and Lee in the killings. The Browns are not related to Abreeya Brown.

Cain and Lee were scheduled to appear in court Saturday and the others Monday.
