Police: Mom put plastic bag on baby's head

DAVIE, Fla., April 4 (UPI) -- A Florida woman has been charged after allegedly taking a photograph of her infant daughter in a garbage can with a plastic bag over her head, police said.

Courtney Shanvice McBride, 20, of Davie, Fla. was charged with cruelty toward a child and neglect after the father of her infant alerted a relative who called police, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.

"The photo showed the plastic bag completely covered the child's face and head," said Davie Police Capt. Dale Engle.

McBride told authorities the photograph was a joke, the report said. She was arrested on April 1.

Her 5-month-old daughter and a 2-year-old sibling have been placed with relatives, the Florida Department of Children & Family said.
