NEW YORK, March 15 (UPI) -- New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said he gave the grand tour to a congressional committee that oversees homeland security funding.
The Wednesday tour included John F. Kennedy International Airport, the World Trade Center complex and the PATH train complex. Bloomberg showed them the operating center of the New York Police Department Thursday, the New York Post reported.
"We wanted to show the committee what it takes to keep the No. 1 terror target in the nation safe every day," said Marc LaVorgna, Bloomberg's spokesman.
The committee included Reps. Nita Lowey, D-N.Y., Robert Aderhold, R-Ala., David Price, D-N.C., and Charlie Dent, R-Pa.
New York City received $155 million in federal homeland security funding last year. Lowey spokesman Matthew Dennis said the tour was meant to provide insight into the city's security needs since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
