RFK son faces charges in New York

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., Feb. 25 (UPI) -- A member of the Kennedy family faces misdemeanor charges for an altercation with nurses at a New York state hospital while he was holding his baby son.

Douglas Kennedy, son of Robert F. Kennedy and nephew of President John Kennedy, was formally charged Thursday with harassment and child endangerment, CNN reported.

The charges stem from an incident Jan. 7 when two nurses tried to keep Kennedy from walking out of Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco holding the newborn boy. Elliot Taub, a lawyer representing the nurses, said they did not know he was the boy's father and were simply trying to protect the newborn from possible harm.

Dr. Timothy Haydock, a family friend who was with Kennedy at the hospital, said the nurses had agreed to let him take the baby outside to get some air. Haydock said the nurses were "the only aggressors." Kennedy's lawyer, Robert Gottlieb, acknowledges his client pushed one of the nurses but says it was only after she tried to take the baby away from him.
