Three Marines die in California accident

DANA POINT, Calif., Feb. 14 (UPI) -- Three Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton were killed and one was injured Tuesday in a car crash in nearby Dana Point, Calif., police said.

Their vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed around 2 a.m. when it crashed into a tree, the Orange County Sheriff's Department said. The driver survived but was taken to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo in critical condition. Two of the men were declared dead at the scene and a third man died at the hospital.

Capt. Marc Stone of the Orange County Fire Authority said it took firefighters took 20 minutes to cut the occupants out of the vehicle, the Orange County (Calif.) Register reported.
