Student jailed for Virgina Tech remark

XENIA, Ohio, Feb. 9 (UPI) -- An Ohio college student was arrested for allegedly telling campus employees he "wouldn't be afraid" to "pull a Virginia Tech," officials said.

Central State University student Charles D. McCornell, 27, was arrested Tuesday and charged with inducing panic and disorderly conduct, the Dayton (Ohio) Daily News reported.

McCornell became frustrated by setting up meetings with CSU faculty members to talk about a disputed grade, said a CSU Department of Public Safety report. A witness told CSU safety officials McCornell said he was "tired of being given the run around," adding he would "pull a Virginia Tech."

Another witness said McCornell said, "They won't be satisfied until they start seeing body bags leaving here."

"He may not have meant anything by it -- who knows -- but to make a statement like that and to specifically reference that incident that happened on a campus, I don't think you can take that lightly," said Xenia, Ohio, Law Director and Prosecutor Ron Lewis.

In 2007, Virginia Tech senior Seung-Hui Cho opened fire on the Blacksburg, Va., campus. He killed 32 people and wounded several others before committing suicide.

McCornell is being held in Greene County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bond. His trial is scheduled to begin March 1.
