Approval of Congress drops to 10 percent

PRINCETON, N.J., Feb. 8 (UPI) -- An abysmal 10 percent of Americans approve of the job Congress is doing, down from 13 percent last month, Gallup said Wednesday.

Eighty-six percent of Americans said they disapprove of Congress, tying the disapproval high set in December, poll results indicated.

Congressional approval averaged 17 percent for 2011 and was at its highest measure of 84 percent in October 2001, a month after the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, the Princeton, N.J., polling agency said.

Gallup said it was difficult to determine a specific action that may have led to the continued deterioration of Congress' image.

Results are based on nationwide telephone interviews with 1,029 adults conducted Thursday through Sunday. The margin of error is 4 percentage points.
