Off-duty police officer Steven Green, who happened to be shopping in the store, tackled Wallace. CNN reports Green took Wallace to a metro jail where Wallace managed to stab and kill Green and flee in a patrol car.

Wallace eventually abandoned the patrol car and hid under a house. When police found him, he shot an officer in the arm as police tried to apprehend him.

Police say they finally shot and killed Wallace, 24, in a standoff.
