Mobile home fire kills three children

PHILADELPHIA, Miss., Jan. 30 (UPI) -- A fire that apparently started in the kitchen raced through a mobile home in Philadelphia, Miss., and killed three children, officials said.

The condition of a fourth child, a family member who was visiting the home and flown to a burn center in Georgia, was not known, WTOK-TV, Meridian, Miss., reported Sunday.

Officials in Neshoba County said the Sunday fire appears to have started in the kitchen, then spread through the double-wide mobile home, killing Josh and Leslie Tubby's three children as they slept.

Sheriff Tommy Waddell said Josh Tubby tried to protect the bedroom where the children slept but the fire was out of control. Tubby and the children's grandfather, who was also at the mobile home when the fire started, were taken to hospitals.

"At this time, it appears to be a tragic, tragic accident," Waddell said.
