Christmas shooting leaves boy, man wounded

GARY, Ind., Dec. 26 (UPI) -- A 7-year-old boy was in critical condition and a 36-year-old man was in stable condition after being wounded in a drive-by shooting in Gary, Ind., police said.

The child, Leonard Cobb III, was in the living room and the man, Kenneth Farr, was in the kitchen during a party at the single-family home early Christmas Day when shots were fired at the house, the Post Tribune of Northwest Indiana reported. Cobb was hit in the head and Farr was struck in the groin area, the newspaper said.

Gary police Cpl. Gabrielle King said investigators had not determined whether both victims were hit by the same bullet or by separate shots. Police also had no motive for the 12:15 a.m. shooting and were seeking the public's help in identifying those responsible.

"We really don't have any leads. Maybe somebody saw some things," King said.

The Chicago Tribune reported King said the boy was playing a game and there were five other adults in the home when the shooting occurred.

"He was totally innocent," said King of the child. "He was just trying to have some fun."
