Obamas attend Christmas service

KAILUA, Hawaii, Dec. 25 (UPI) -- U.S. President Obama and his family, vacationing in Hawaii, Sunday attended Christmas services at the Marine Corps Base Kaneohe Chapel.

A few people who spotted the presidential motorcade leaving the first family's vacation retreat in Kailua about 11 a.m. cheered and at least one person tried to snap photos with a cellphone.

The president was seen wearing a navy polo shirt and khakis. First lady Michelle Obama and 10-year-old daughter Sasha wore sleeveless floral dresses, while 13-year-old daughter Malia wore a white dress with white dots.

The family had their arms around each other as they walked inside.

About an hour later, the Obamas left the chapel and returned to their vacation neighborhood via the motorcade.

The pool reporter covering the presidential vacation said a sign was spotted along the road welcoming the first family to town: "E komo mai ohana Obama."

The president spent part of Christmas Eve making telephone calls to U.S. service members before he and his family sat down for dinner. Christmas morning include opening gifts about 8 a.m., followed by breakfast and singing some Christmas carols before heading to the chapel service.

The president and first lady were to travel to the Marine Base in the afternoon to visit with service members and their families, and then have dinner at home.
