NEW YORK, Dec. 22 (UPI) -- Former U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-N.Y., driven from office earlier this year by a sexting scandal, is now the father of a baby boy.

The New York Post said Jordan Zane Weiner arrived Wednesday, 10 days before Huma Abedin, Weiner's wife, was scheduled to give birth. A source told the newspaper the boy weighed a bit over 7 pounds.

Weiner, who had been considered a likely Democratic candidate for mayor of New York, resigned from Congress in June after 12 years. He admitted sending shots of his underwear-clad crotch to a number of women via Twitter.

Republican Bob Turner won a special election for the seat in Brooklyn and Queens. Abedin remains a top member of U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's staff.

Clinton and U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., were at a baby shower for Abedin Saturday in Washington.
