GENESEO, N.Y., Dec. 14 (UPI) -- A lawsuit resulting from a fatal 2005 bus crash in New York that killed four people and injured 19 has been settled for $35 million, officials said.
Survivors and relatives of the victims had sued Coach Canada, the bus company, and J and J Hauling, a trucking company, The Rochester (N.Y.) Democrat and Chronicle reported Wednesday.
The bus carrying a Canadian girls hockey team slammed into a J and J truck parked on the shoulder of Interstate 390 near Geneseo after the bus driver fell asleep.
Rick Edwards, the team's coach, his 13-year-old son, Brian, Catherine Roach, the mother of one of the hockey players, and the truck driver, Pennsylvania resident Ernest Zeiset, were killed in the accident.
The case was scheduled for trial this month in New York's Livingston County but the settlement was reached late last month, heading off the trial.
