Authorities said the passenger bus was traveling to the capital when it collided with the trailer and caught fire.

A police official said the passengers were trapped in the burning bus as the vehicle's doors were jammed, the report said.

"Those who managed to save their lives had to break open some of the windows of the bus to jump out," the official told Xinhua.

He said the trailer, needing repairs, was not properly parked.
