WASHINGTON, Dec. 11 (UPI) -- Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, said he had no plans to mount a third-party campaign should his quest for the Republican presidential nomination come up short.
The influential conservative remains back in the pack in recent polls; however, he said Sunday he was committed to the upcoming primaries and was not prepared to either run outside the party or endorse any of his rivals.
"My main goal is to look to January 3rd and January 10th, and we're doing well," Paul said Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press." "It is premature for me to be talking about what I'm going to do after January 10th until we find out exactly how this plays out."
Paul faces an uphill fight with the early-January votes in Iowa and New Hampshire looming, according to most polls.
But that is not how the Texas congressman sees it. "We really have a very nice campaign going on, and people are recognizing this," he said. "We have thousands of young people now that are campaigning for us, and the turnouts are just fantastic."
