Charges of more abuse at The Citadel

CHARLESTON, S.C., Nov. 17 (UPI) -- A youth who reported being sexually abused at a summer camp run by The Citadel said there were more victims at the South Carolina military college.

The Citadel has released documents relating to an interview between the then-14-year-old and The Citadel's general counsel Mark Brandenburg in 2007, CNN reported Thursday.

"It only happened to me one time. I know there are about five other kids that experienced it a few times," the former camper, whose name is redacted in the documents, said in the interview.

In interview, the youth described how counselor Louis Neal "Skip" ReVille had shown boys pornography, masturbated in front of them and pressured them to join him during a summer five years ago.

ReVille was arrested in October on charges of molesting at least five children in alleged incidents in the Charleston area, unrelated to The Citadel accusations.

He has admitted guilt in at least three incidents between November 2010 and October 2011, court documents show.

The Citadel is facing questions about why it didn't bring the allegations against ReVille, who took a job as a summer counselor at the South Carolina military college in 2001, to police when the former camper's family approached school officials with his story.

Retired Air Force Lt. Gen. John Rosa, the school's president, said Monday The Citadel is "profoundly sorry" for the way it handled the matter.

"When the family did not pursue the matter, we did not either. We should have," Rosa said. "Regardless of whether the law said we were supposed to report or not, we should have reported this. We should have taken more action."
