50 meth, gun suspects rounded up

SEATTLE, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- Federal prosecutors said they were rounding up 50 suspects in an undercover operation that targeted methamphetamine and gun sales in the Seattle area.

Three suspects were still at large Friday in Operation Center of Attention, which took place over the past three months in the White Center, an area of King County just south of Seattle.

A task force led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives seized 68 guns this week along with 51 pounds of meth and 12 pounds of crack and powder cocaine. Many of the defendants charged were repeat offenders who were well known to police, the U.S. attorney's office in Seattle said in a written statement.

"This has been an extraordinary effort by federal and local law enforcement to root out some of the major sources of crime and violence in the White Center community," said Dan Satterberg, King County prosecuting attorney. "For a single operation to uncover this many offenders involved in the illegal sale of guns and drugs is truly remarkable."

Agents this week executed search warrants at two businesses where guns and drugs were allegedly being sold.
