Children, drugs found at cockfighting site

LANCASTER, Calif., Oct. 14 (UPI) -- During a raid on an alleged California cockfighting operation, deputies say they found $1 million in methamphetamine, 100 roosters and children living in sheds.

The raid in Antelope Valley Wednesday came out of a drug investigation that led authorities to the site, a small neighborhood north of Lancaster, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Seven children, ages 4 to 17, were found living in dilapidated sheds and were turned over to child welfare officials, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said Thursday.

Five pounds of meth were found hidden in vehicles at the site, along with several firearms, authorities said.

Officers also said they found sparring muffs and steroids for the roosters.

Six adults were arrested at the scene on suspicion of narcotics violations, authorities said. Their names had yet to be released.
