Deficit reduction panel launches Web site

WASHINGTON, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- The congressional committee tasked with finding $1.5 trillion in deficit savings during the next decade has a Web site and is using it to solicit input.

The site, deficitreduction.gov, asks visitors to "pass along your suggestions to the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction. What can we do to reduce our nation's deficit?"

The site, which includes the committee schedule, rules and membership, launched on the same day the committee had its first formal meeting in which testimony was taken from Congressional Budget Office Director Douglas Elmendorf.

The 12-member, bicameral, bipartisan committee is led by Rep. Jeb Hensarling, R-Texas, and Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash.
