ST. LOUIS, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- A student who says he was dismissed from a Webster University program for lacking empathy has filed a $2 million lawsuit against the Missouri school.
David Schwartz, 44, said he was told by Dr. Stacy Henning, the director of counselor education at the school, that he lacked sufficient empathy to be a family counselor, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
Schwartz's transcript shows he earned mostly A's and one C in the counseling program at the university, but was given a "no credit" in March for failing to apply his skills in a real-world practicum.
Schwartz says the dismissal came weeks after he wrote an anonymous letter criticizing a professor within the department. He argues the school should have worked with him to improve his skills instead of removing him from the master's program so quickly.
"I'm at an age now, at 44, where I'm committed to what I'm doing professionally," he said. "I'm more than willing to improve."
